Dr. Fildes has over 30 years of highly successful experience as a business leader, technology manager, researcher, and practicing scientist in dispute resolution and insurance investigation. Dr. Fildes was a post-doctoral research associate in Chemical Engineering at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. His Ph.D is in Chemistry (Physical) from the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and his B.S. is in Chemistry from Georgetown University. Dr. Fildes has specialized throughout his career in the role that materials contribute to the limitations and failures of products and systems, and he is especially skilled at diagnosing the root cause of problems and problem solving, and determining the limitations of testing, analysis, and modeling. He often sees key issues and devises approaches that others have missed. He is a combination of statesman, educator, and scientist, and is able to successfully convey, with credibility and confidence, highly technical issues to laypeople. Dr. Fildes also served as president of a large homeowners association and has extensive experience with homeowners’ association governance and operating issues.
Dr. Fildes has a broad range of experience with materials that includes resins, composites, ceramics, and metals used in automotive, aerospace, electronic, and construction. Dr. Fildes also has extensive experience with developing structure-property relationships for real world applications of materials, developing materials processing models including use of artificial intelligence, using electrochemical techniques for characterizing coatings and electronic materials as well as for measuring corrosion, sensors and measurement instrumentation, signal processing, statistics, data analysis, and friction and wear of materials including applying mechanisms of wear to actual situations and developing and applying test methods for real world applications. Dr. Fildes is also experienced with product development, intellectual property creation and management, and innovation. Dr. Fildes also has experience with the materials aspects of Building Science and Buidling Science modeling with WUFI.
Dr. Fildes has served in a number of leadership positions including as President of the not-for-profit Institute of Tribology and Coatings, CEO of Packer Engineering, Manager of Sensors and Controls in the Industrial Research Lab of Northwestern University, Founder and Co-Director of Northwestern University's Advanced Materials Intelligent Processing Center, Director of Sensor Technology at IIT Research Institute, and Senior Scientist at Borg Warner's corporate research center. Dr. Fildes offers a comprehensive knowledge of industry, government, and academia, including an extensive knowledge of the practice of science and technology, the interaction of science, technology, and business, R&D and product development, and dispute resolution. Dr. Fildes has 43 publication, reports, and presentations, and three patents.
