Dr. Davis has a Ph. D. in Classical Languages and Literatures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a M. A. in Counseling Psychology from Northwestern University, and a B. A. with Honors in English from Davidson College. Following 10 years as a faculty member, teaching classical and comparative literature, Dr. Davis spent 27 years in the administration of Northwestern University. He established Northwestern’s first office responsible for government relations and policy analysis, was responsible for initiatives raising more than $100 million in government funding for research facilities and programs, and retired in 2002 as Special Assistant to the President for Government Relations. He currently teaches part time in Northwestern’s M. A. Program on Higher Education Administration and Policy and practices part time as a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has presented and published papers on literature and higher education policy. He has served on boards and committees of numerous organizations that advocate policy to promote higher education in particular or the charitable sector in general, including the Association of American Universities, the Consortium on Financing Higher Education, the Federation of Independent Illinois Colleges and Universities, the Charitable Accord, the Network for Charitable Giving, the Council of Illinois Nonprofit Organizations, the Donors Forum of Chicago, and the C. G. Jung Institute of Chicago.
